 4 stars for cleaning, but not longevity December 25, 2008
I bought the Hoover Slider predominantly for use in 2 rooms with 12" grouted tiles and also for use on throw rugs. With a dog, cat, and young children there is plenty to pick up on a daily basis -- mostly fur and crumbs, as well as some dirt and debris tracked in the entryway from our shoes.
Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the vac and would give it 4 stars on cleaning on the hard floors. It doesn't pick up those stray whole pieces of Cheerios or Kix, but it can handle the smaller pieces. It also works well along the baseboards when you slide the long side along there (hence the "slider" name?), which is important to me. The vac doesn't do as well on throw rugs/carpeting, particularly if there is any plushness to the carpet.
Typically, we run the vac around once a day, empty the dirt cup after each use, and leave the vac plugged in to recharge the rest of the time. The cordless feature was important to me. However, after about 4 months I noticed it couldn't hold a charge for very long. The motor was still running, but after only 1 minute 20 seconds you could clearly hear that it had significantly weakened, and suction power was correspondingly reduced as well. By 2 minutes, it was barely doing anything. Of course, this was on a full charge, with no obstructions, etc. After continuing on for another 2 months like this, I finally am getting it serviced as it is still under warranty.
I assume there is some degree of planned obsolescence by Hoover, but 4 months for full power is unacceptable. A man I know who works extensively with different types of vacs recently commented that there is no such thing as a really good cordless vac. I really wanted a cordless vac, but for this frustration I probably need to get a corded vac or go back to using the Swiffer.
What I was looking for December 21, 2008
I have hardwood floors throughout and no rugs. This cleaner is great for quickly going over the surfaces before mopping. My only criticism is that the dust cup is small and requires frequent emptying.

Was a bit disappointed with this purchase and am in the process of returning it. So here's what I thought of it..... PROS, small, light weight, good looking. CONS, don't like where the power button is located, you either have to bend down to click it on or pick the unit up and turn it on, the handle falls over VERY easy, & the dirt cup is SUPER small, you need to empty it after every use & it is not easy to empty. you have to slide this button and turn the cup back to pull it off, then pull the little filter out , empty the cup and put it back together, then put it back on the unit. All in all I think the cons out way the pros. I'm going back to the "Shark". It may not be as attractive as the slider but it's much more functional.

I love this product and use it reguarly between vacuuming. You will be surpurised just how well it does work. I am everytime I use it and I've had this product for several months now and am going to order one for my sister. I am disabled with very limited mobility and this is sooooooooooo easy for me to use. Be sure and charge it the first time as per instructions for a full charge before using and keep it plugged in after each use but, if for any reason, as instructions inform you, you are not going to use it for 2 weeks (I can't imagine unless you are going on vacation) be sure and unplug it. I love that I can use it everyday and it keeps all my floors (carpet and tile) looking great!!! I have small dogs and with this product my main traffic flow floors look great. Just be sure and read and follow instruction manual. Can't go wrong with Hoover products!! I highly recommend this product!!!!
Very handy quick vacuum October 5, 2008
This is a quick and easy way to clean up. Not very good for picing up kitty litter and has to be emptied often, but is very handy.
