Steamy rating here! December 20, 2008 Alright, at first I was prepared to toss this into the Popiel Product Pile in the garage if it failed to perform to our expectations. It's a good sized pile.
However, this amazing Nordic Ware Rice Cooker is staying right where I can find it because it does prepare the bestest rice, steamed veggies, and pasta very nicely. Although you do need to give wild rice a little more time than white, I am definitely a fan of this white bucket. Clean-up is a snap compared to stove top and can easily make 2-4 portions depending on one's particular appetite.
This is a keeper!!
took some adjusting December 17, 2008 I bought this just to see what a microwave rice cooker was like. It took a few tries, but eventually I got some pretty good rice from it. Not as good as my electric cooker, but not bad at all. I cooked a smaller amount than the directions gave and found I needed more water and cooking time--perhaps a variance in the type of microwave used. It did leak a little around the edges but nothing a paper towel could not handle. For less than $10, you can't go wrong with this--it is worth a little experimentation.
Addendum: I found out if I used the 70% wattage on the micrwave that I can follow the directions included with the cooker exactly and get the right results. It does say in the directions to cook on medium strength. No overflow or anything on 70%. I am even more pleased!
great product December 7, 2008 I've bought 3 now, one for me and one for each of my kids. Makes a bit of a mess (that's the 4 stars - otherwise would be a 5) but a paper towel on a plate underneath solves most of the mess.
Does a great job with the rice - always perfect, and goes right in the dishwasher.
Not just a rice cooker October 8, 2008 This has become my favorite kitchen appliance. With this cooker, I can cook just about anything and not worry about messy microwave spills. I use it to cook or steam just about anything: white rice, brown rice, soup, rice flavored with soup, rice and veggies, rice with seafood, potatoes, stews, just about anything. I've even done pasta a time or two with no problems.
The only down side I've found is minor. You have to be careful taking the top off - it's easy to burn yourself from the steam. That's easy to avoid, though.
I already have one steamer. This second one will be for the office.
Does not work June 24, 2008 I bought this based on all of the good reviews it had on Amazon. I tried it several times,(following the directions exactly) and the cooker would not even come close to fully cooking the rice. I would not recommend this to anyone.
